This Eureka Mignon XL is a wonderful little machine. I bought it to replace our 2009 Cunill El Café Tranquilo which has been my workhorse coffee grinder for over a decade. Compared to the Cunill, the Eureka has a tiny footprint, it’s quiet, it’s fast, it looks terrific, the grounds are consistent, and the interface is just so easy to use. Very highly recommended.
But more importantly, I want to talk about Eastlink Espresso and specifically about their customer service.
On Wednesday last week (when I wrote this) my old Cunill grinder died. I pulled it apart and my rudimentary tests suggested the board was fried and Cunill just aren’t making replacement boards for machines that old. Time for a new grinder.
I hate losing an appliance and I was in a bit of a flap, so on Thursday morning, I jumped onto two different coffee machine suppliers’ websites and used their chat systems to find out how long it would take to get a new grinder to me. On both sites I said something along the lines of: “Grinder just died, facing a weekend without coffee, how quick is your express shipping?” I can’t remember exactly; it was something silly like that.
The first site was a reputable business who I have bought from before (but I won’t name because I’m not here to shame anyone). They replied with a link to their shipping info. That’s probably all I deserved for such a daft question. But inside ten minutes Eastlink called me.
First, they asked me about my old grinder and if there was anything they could do. We discussed the Cunill and agreed it had done well to last this long and it is probably time to let it go. Then they asked what grinders I was interested in and I said the Eureka Atom and Eureka XL. They remembered me from when I bought an ECM Mechanika Slim coffee machine and said that the XL would be a better match and would be a nice visual pairing for the ECM. They told me they only had the chrome in stock so they gave me a good price. They then organised for it to be shipped that morning to give me the best chance of arriving by the weekend. To my absolute delight, the grinder arrived on Friday (that was Victoria to the ACT in one day) and Eastlink were right, the XL in chrome looks great next to the ECM.
Losing an appliance is always a pain, but I came away from the whole experience feeling like I was very well looked after. I couldn’t be happier. And I feel like it’s important to let people know when a business is getting it right. In summary:
Eastlink’s first reaction was to solve my problem; to fix my existing grinder. Their second action was to talk me out of the more expensive grinder and direct me to one that would suite me better. Then they solved my problem by getting it to me before the weekend, I’m still not sure how.
The other business I contacted sent me to their shipping info page.
I enthusiastically recommend the Eureka Mignon XL, but more than that, I wholeheartedly recommend buying through Eastlink.
Thank you, Eastlink. Keep up the good work.
